Let’s talk about love.
Love is a feeling or emotion you experience toward something or someone. When we love
someone you want to give them things, do something for them, spend time with
them, or say kind things about them. I think right now you may be thinking
about someone you love in your life. If you are, you probably have a smile
on your face. Love brings out the best in us and we want to show our love to them.
Did you know loving
others is a command from God? God wants us to love Him and others. When we do we feel great. Loving others and doing good things for them helps our bodies
work better which in turn makes us feel better. Isn’t God wonderful to tell us to do something
which makes us feel better? When we obey the Lord and love Him and others, we
get the benefit. John 15:11-13and 17 says, These
things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. These things I command you, that you love one another.
What if the person we
love doesn’t love us or is mean to us? What should we do? It’s hard when that
happens, but we should still love them. When they are mean or say ugly things
to us we need to be kind and loving back. Sometimes they want to hurt us by
being mean. The best way they can hurt us is for us to be mean back to them. When we love them even when we don’t feel like it, we will come out feeling better
than if we didn’t. I understand it is a hard
thing to do, but when we do love them we feel good inside and who knows, they
may change toward us and start being kind back.
For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but
have everlasting life. John3:16
God created us. God
loves us. God sent His Son to die for us. Jesus Christ willingly died for us so
we could live forever with Him. God deserves our love. God deserves our
obedience.
And you shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with
all your strength. This is the
first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your
neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31 And we have known and
believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love
abides in God, and God in him. 1John
4:16
Let’s practice loving
Him and others more everyday not just on Valentine’s Day.
